I have bought from The Sail Warehouse in the past. The jib I got was the costal model. Very well made. Heavy Duty. And I had a choice at The Sail Warehouse. So I'll probably go with them again.

I have talked extensivly with Rudy in the past and he has been a great help.

You would think that if the boom is not bottoming out as you pull down, you should be pulling all the slack of of the bolt rope, even if the head of the sail does not go all the way to the top.

If the sail is still in relatively good condition (still crinkley) then I might have someone with some experience look at it to determine if recutting may be an option.

instead of pulling down on the boom with the cunningham, run the line up to through the first crinkle and pull it down. You will still have a bag at teh shelf of the sail, but the rest of the sail may flatten out enough to be useful to you.

If you can send me a picture attached to an e-mail to roger02 att mts dott net, I will post it on your behalf in the picture gallery and we can all have a boo at it and perhaps give you better advice. You have us, (well me at least) stimied!

Hey Roger,
You have the picture. It is the one I sent you when we were talking about boom vang interfering with the halyards.

Pete:

Been wondering about your sail shape woes. Did you get that figured out?

Sort of. I was able to pull the down haul tighter with the aid of the vang.
But it was still bagy.
I cut my finger badly washing a glass and have not been able to get out sailing.

To heck with the finger. Went sailing today. The luff bolt rope was as tight as a banjo. Same as the foot bolt rope as the clew was as tight as I could pull it.

Sail is blown out. I'll sail with it this year. New sail next year.

I installed two turning blocks at the base of the mast so the jib and main halyard are not interfering with the boom vang. This works well.

Both sides of the triangle are tight and the vang is tight. The middle of the sail is loose. It is worn out.

Thanks for all your help.

Your original post mentioned the noise of the boom fitting - this is caused by the play between the gooseneck slide and the mast track - and is the nature of the design. Yes, it can be very loud when lots of tension is on the vang, but not to worry - just the way it is.
