but the guy hasnt sailed it in years and thinks one of his employees may have cleaned up and thrown away his sails...do I have to buy new?...I was wondering since theres a lot of fleets that are competitive at sailing , wouldnt they have used/older sails that they dont use now?....anyone got any idea who you would contact to find out?..thanks in advance...

You came to the right place to find used sails. I got a spinnaker and a main off of this site and depending on where you are (you don't say in your post or tag) you may have a very active fleet near you which is a good resource.

The hull identification number should be between the two rudder gudgeons on the back of the transom. It should read XDYX, the next four numbers are your sail number and the last 4 are the month and year of manufacture. If it was before November 1972, it may be in a different format, or someplace else.
