rigging setup in cubby/support beam rigging

fellow DSers

I have read other pages and forums and I am still confused as how to rig the main sheet into the cubby area. When I bought my '76 DS II, the wooden base piece was gone (completely rotted away) and all that was left was a little support beam with rope intwined all over in no particular order.

I'm guessing that the mainsheet is supposed to be inside of the mast?? and comes through a little hole at the top of the interior of the cubby and around the support beam through the pulleys where they are to be tied off....

If I haven't completely lost you already... could someone explain this set-up/post pics?

I can email pics to show what I'm talking about if needed.

THANKS!!

Do you mean the main halyard?

The mainsheet is the one that controls the boom on the mainsail. It runs from the boom to the top of the centerboard trunk, or to a traveller depending on the system.

If your mast has internal halyards that exit under the cuddy, then I suspect there are other persons than I better suited to answer this question. I suspect they would exit near a sheeve then cleat somewhere, but I am unaware of this set up on a DS II. Perhaps a DS I owner with internal halyards can better respond... (please).
