A friend had an Oday day sailer ( year unknown)
Heres what he warned me of, and why he sold his boat.
He would sail to a sandy island and pull the boat on the beach and have lunch.

He said sand and shells worked their way up the cboard and he couldn't lower the board.

He had to pull the boat into deeper water and swim under the boat and work the board free.

Is this something I have to worry about as we spend a lot of weekends on the beach?

Have you had this problem yes or no, and what are you sailing a DS 1 or II?

and if this is a problem , is there a fix other than anchor off shore a bit.

Any boat with a centerboard can potentially give you a similar problem. I had it happed on my Sundance 20 with a 175# swing keel, and heard of numerous other reports, Oday 20, Vision 660 etc that can have gravel and mud jam up there. Its simple physics... increase friction in an already snug spot and no movement will occur. That's how log jams occur in a moving river.

Nosing up to the beach with an anchor off the back a few feet may be all that is needed to keep the cb slot clear of bottom gunk. At 575 pounds you don't want this hull to be pushed up on the beach by waves anyhow. Anchor in ankle deep water and avoid both hassels.
