I almost forgot to answer the question about the hole in the CB. I did not enlarge the hole, because I did not want to damage the center board. I did stick a bent coat hanger wire in it, and determined there is a cavity up in there.

I think only time will tell if the downhaul line attachment to the center board holds up.

Keith,

On your CB the plates and wedges. Do you have a lot of play in them? We replaced the downhaul line two weeks ago by having to remove the CB. I noticed a lot of "slop" between the CB and the walls of the boat.

I do not remember noticing much slop or play between the center board and the hull. I replaced the downhaul line from under the boat on the trailer. The center board was resting on top of one of the rollers on the trailer.
