Do I have a DS, DSII, or DSIII

Postby duanedeb » Sun Jan 16, 2011 10:06 pm

How do I distinguish between a DS II and III? The boat I recently bought is titled as a 1985 O'Day Daysailer. It has O'Day placards and markings on it, and has "Daysailer" painted on the side of the cuddy.

The mast step is on top of the cuddy, and attaches with two pins.

The Hull number is XDY12877E585

Thanks,
Duane

This should get you started, anyway:

By the way, anyone know why the DSIII isn't class legal?

The DS III is not class legal because O'day modified the boat design too much. The hull shape is different, the rudder shape is different.

Thanks for the replies. I had seen that hull index before. It shows all 1985 and after O'Day's as DSIII's, but my hull number fits into the DSII range shown. So I'm still not sure.

Does anybody know of any hull or rudder feature that I can measure to figure it out for sure.

I'm no racer, so at the end of the day, it doesn't matter to me either way....I'm just curious to know what I bought....

Thanks again,
Duane
