I recently received and unpacked a new set of Neil Pryde sails for my DSII. It's amazing how "crisp" and stiff modern sails are when they are new. By contrast my previous sails (original from 1972) feel like an old pillowcase.
Anyone know what this slot near the mainsail clew is used for? Maybe for reefing?

Modern sails are crisper than traditional sails ever were. That's why you roll them and don't bundle them into compact sail bags. The bags you should have gotten should be long tubular ones.
The slot was already discussed here this year, you should be able to find that discussion. (Yes on reefing). If you can't find it, come back.
