cracks around mast hole in cuddy

Postby Guest » Sun Mar 28, 2004 10:41 pm

Am looking at a DSII that has circular cracks around the mast hole in the cuddy and some repair to the area immediately around the hole. This is a hinged mast so I am confused how the cracking and damage developed. I do not see a way for the mast base to put stress on this area.
Has anyone had a similar problem and is so how involved is it to repair so that the cuddy looks decent again will not need to be repaired again?
Thanks!

This problem usually occurs when both pins are used in the hinge plates. If the rigging is loose, the whole hinge can move front to back causing the damage you describe. I only use the rear pin. Keep in mind, this is only a guess.
