Tomorrow looks like it is going to be even worse. My dad and Grandmother are coming to visit next weekend (3rd Christmas), then my wife's parents the following weekend (4th Christmas). It is starting to look my next sail will be in Palatka, lol.

I'm prolly not going to be able to make the WCTSS 10,000 Islands cruise next weekend, so Palatka might be the next sail for me as well ...

Off work for 11 days and only sailed that once - bad wx and Honey-Do's ... ;-P

That's how it is in our neck of the woods. The temp is usually right, but the rain is always lurking in sunny Florida.

Last Saturday I was at Canyon lake. I rigged and launched my 26' boat to race in what they call the winter series.. The wind was 20 - 25 mph and gust were above that. several people did not go out. Decided to try it out. after I got out there I decided to not race. I was having trouble controlling my boat in the gust single handed. but I wanted to check out my Knot meter I had repaired to see if it was going to work, and it did. I was sailing along and waves were 2 - 3 ft high white capping and temp. was about 40 deg. lot of spray coming over the deck. I was thinking I should not be out here. I could see something ahead just off the starboard bow and about 200 yds out coming toward me. I was beating to weather on starboard tack. I quickly saw that it was two kayaks side by side. I suddenly felt like I was a wuss of the the first order. After The kayakers went by a wind surfer came sailing by on a beam reach just touching the white part of the waves.

I tacked and then fell off and went back to the marina. The next day was the day to race my day sailer, but it was 34 deg. and I decided I had had enough and did not go. My wife tells me about noon that two kayakers were missing and found dead saturday on canyon lake. Two brothers 25 and 17. They were found with life jackets on floating face down. Must have been hypothermia water temp. was 55 deg. The next day We find out that on lake Buchanan two other kayakers got in trouble on Saturday and one drowned and the other his girl friend was rescued.

Sounds like you made the right call staying in. Being a Floridian, I would probably die from hypothermia instantly if that cold of water touched me

Things finally cooled down around these parts, and has been a mix of yucky weather and rain storms. Needless to say, I have not been sailing since Christmas. I need 60+ degree temp and under 15mph wind to become brave enough to sail, lol. I may be a wimp, but I am still alive
