Colorado Boats

Postby ColoBeazer » Fri Jun 26, 2020 8:07 pm

I know this is a shot in the dark, but I picked up an '85 DSI Spindrift this year and was curious if anyone here has one on the front range of CO too? I noticed a Craigslist ad for another one shortly after getting mine so it made me thing there might be one or two out here too. I've got the boat out a few times now, but would love to compare rigging to others, as mine seems to have some customer work done on rigging. The biggest thing now that has me stumped is reefing...I see areas where it might have been set up at one point, but doesn't seem complete now.

Hi, Did you ever get this answered? I used to own a DS1 and had reef points added by a sailmaker. So I could sail by myself. You have to add some reefing lines, and hardware(turning blocks, jam cleats) to the boom to make it easier.

Greetings, We just bought an'82 DS2 and are learning to rig it with plans to sail next spring. Retired and new to sailing. Located in Southern foothill area. Needed to learn something new after restoring older BMW. Looking forward to it!

Welcome to the forum. Make sure to read around among the older posts. There's a trove of useful stuff out there. It's not always the most recent discussion that will have the answers you need. If new to sailing, take a note of this thread on basic concepts.

I think all of us on this forum would agree you chose a great hobby to get into and a great boat to do it with. It's easy enough to get started, but there's always something new to learn. As you gain practice and experience, you may find that you begin to better appreciate what works and doesn't work for you, and you should give yourself time to grow into what your boat offers, but also not be hesitant to let yourself grow out of what you started with, over time. Good luck!
