Early Day Sailer: Seeking Year of Make & Modifications

I'm curious as to the year of manufacture for a Day Sailer, #421, that I took ownership of during the past year.

Also, are there any key modifications other owners from this period would recommend? (I'm installing a Harken hexaratchet arrangment for the main sheet in place of the original brass collector's item that was there, and suspect many other improvements have passed this boat by.)

They started building DS's in 1957. I'm pretty sure by '61 they were just into 4 digits (over 1000), so I'd guess yours to be a '59 give or take. There may be someone out there that can give you a more exact number, but this should be close.
