The official, un-official Daysailer number list.

It seems, that user PromptCritical may not be actively monitoring this forum any longer (or only rarely). No need to double post the info - if he stays absent for a while perhaps Bob and I can figure out how to enable someone else to "own" creating a consolidated list.

@talbot: there should be nothing remotely threatening on this forum! :D :D

Yes, the thread as such is still active, but the original owner may no longer be actively consolidating the list. I've tried to contact him and haven't heard anything.

That said, nothing prevents you, or anybody, from starting a new thread with a consolidated list.

By entering your info here, it's available already.

What it's lacking is merely the presentation in list form (by edit to the first post).

Anyone game to take on creating a consolidated list?

I'll give it a shot, but it will take me a few days/weeks to get it up to date and posted. I've already got the old list into excel (seems to me to be a better way to manage it long-term) and all I have to do is read the posts and incorporate that data.

Great, when you have the consolidated data read, let's figure out the best way to make them available.

Perhaps google docs might have some use here? I have not read all the pages fo this thread, so I'm not sure if that was already suggested.

Greenlake :

I have the list attached in excel, but I think it needs some work. I think that the whole hull and class number issue is confusing to a lot of people. I have put the class number down as the "hull number" in most cases. The boat dates seemed to align with them, so I proceeded on those lines. Maybe I should list both?

Uh, it appears you cannot attach excel spreadsheets... I'm at a loss right now as to how I can get the information out to everyone.

The only way I know how, with this program, is to add it as an image - hopefully this works.

Can you save your data as space delimited text? (I think excel gives space delimited files a PRN extension).
Then you open that in something like notepad and cut & paste the lines into your post, but surround them with the "code" markers.
  • Save as PRN
  • Open in Notepad
  • Create a reply in the forum
  • Click the "code" button
  • Paste text from notepad between code markers
That should give the same result as the opening post.

Perhaps later we can figure out whether and how we can get this spreadsheet live as a google doc.

Just heard through work that Google docs is being used as a way to get malware in. So until I hear otherwise I'll have to retract that idea. Sorry.

The difference between class number and hull number is this: O'Day assigned a serial number to all their boats, that's the hull number. Each boat got a class specific number, think of it as a sail number.

Unfortunately, they didn't do what some other builders for other classes have done and put the class number in by drilling a pattern of holes in the boat to ID it or molding it in. New builders after 1972 had to do that, by Federal Regulation.

The only number we really care about is the class number, but including the other might be interesting for some reason.
