Add this one to the list:

1985 O'Day DS II Anniv #12819 "Nellie Ruth" vanalien Little Canada, MN

I bought her in July 2017 from a sailor who bought her new and says she has only sailed on Lake Gervais, where she remains. I christened her "Nellie Ruth," after my grandmothers.

Hi all. Been out of the loop for a very long time. Updating the list now.

Currently daysailer situation is my boat was demasted by a goose. I kid you not. Neighbor at the lake was goose hunting and his would be supper fell out of the sky and hit it. Ripped the headstay out of the deck and the mast came down, bending the tabernacle hinge and breaking a spreader.

Edit: Reading through the thread, I see Cavofficer6 is now maintaining an updated list. So I wasted some time. No biggie.

Ok. Original post updated with all data collected in this thread, my PM's, and Cavofficer6's list.

If any errors are found, let me know and I'll fix.

Thanks for doing this. Cavofficer6 hasn't been heard from in a while, by the way.

As you've edited the original post, I'll take out the forward pointer to his updates, yours is the most up-to-date one, then, and comprehensive.

Before 1971 (old style hull numbers, that is before VIN) you don't need to know the hull number to know whether it's a DSI or DSII: only the DSII has the double hull, and while your photo doesn't show much, it looks like a DSII style transom. Your "class #" is what you would show as sail number on your sails.

(DS1's from recent years also have some of the features otherwise found only on DSIIs, but all of those have VINs).

On Joe's boat I see cockpit inspection/bailing ports, an icebox, centerboard control lines and jib cars, and the Class Number is just a few numbers higher than our 1971 DS II 4624. I vote DS II.

Is this Hull ID Number chart germane to the conversation?

Great site. I'm still doing investigation work but ,based on the information here, I think my DS-I is a 1968; Class No. 3367, Hull No. 18270 as per metal plate on for'd bulkhead. Eric Campbell, Lafayette, LA. Will be trailered but sailed on False River, LA, regularly. Any more information I could get would be greatly appreciated, including sites for official number look-up, etc.
Just rec'd the boat for free and will be putting it together/ refurbishing during the hot part of the year(now) and plan to sail her in the fall.
Thanks,
EC

I just purchased this O'Day Day Sailor. Not sure what year or model it is yet. Hull No. 10939 Class No. 1945. 'Mama Smurf' sailing in central Minnesota. It does not have the original mast or boom but it works for now. I will look to replace those with the original pieces as well as bring her back up to her original condition.

Yours is a DS1. (The wooden coamings are a dead giveaway as is the fact that it dates from before the introduction of the modern HIN).

From the list at the top, your class number (sail number) is between two other boats listed as 1965. So, 1965 is your best guess on that. There are stories that the class numbers weren't always given out in strict sequence, and we know that the hull numbers counted any boats produced at that yard, not just the DS. But the range for the other boats is from 1924 to 1976 which leaves some room around your class number of 1945, so that even if the class numbers weren't given out strictly sequentially it would still be a 1965.

The reason given for the non-sequential nature is that the workers would grab the first available sail bag off the shelf and simply record the number.

Welcome to the forum, and if you have other questions about your boat, feel free to ask them in the other sections of the forum.

Thank you GreenLake for the confirmation. This forum is a great resource! I am already getting lots of information on restoring this O'Day. Really excited to get her in top sailing condition. We have already been out a few times and this has been a fun boat to sail.

I have a 1982 Daysailer II. The hull number is 12026.
The boat and I live near Baraboo, WI.
The boat does not have a name at this time.
I bought this boat about a month ago from the original owner. It is almost mint condition, been stored indoors unless in use.

My boat has a number very close to Chris Bartel on the last post
