Does anyone know how long Marscot made the Daysailer for O'Day. Just helped a friend pick up DS1, sail number 447. It still has the metal plate, so I'm sure of the sail number. The hull number...42.0.5 means nothing to me.

Roger, this is a really outside, long shot stab, but at work we use a 6 digit (used to be 5, with only one digit for the year) Julian calendar-based system to serial number our products. First 2 digits are the week (01 - 52), 3rd (now 3rd and 4th) digit(s) are the year, and the last two are the unit number that week (01 - ?). We can tell a 2016 unit from a 2006 unit from a 1996 unit, etc., but it sometimes caused confusion in the field, so we changed it about 5 years ago.

Anyhoo, I'm wondering if Marscot used such a numbering system, even if only for a short time? 42.0.5: week 42 of (probably) 1960, 5th hull that week? Hey, I said it was a long shot! <grin>

Perhaps John Alesch will chime in, as he's got a pretty good grasp of the early history of O'Day and associated companies, as do several others here. I think the biggest shock is that you have a DS of that vintage that still has the plate! ;-P

Thanks Tim.

We now have two Marscot Daysailers in the club...270 and 447. My understanding was that Marscot stopped making the Daysailer for O'Day at the end of 1959, but if you are right, who knows.

Roger,

From the Dolphin 24 site http://www.dolphin24.org/oday_plant.html O'day used Marscot starting in 1958 for production and moved Marscot plant to Fall River in 1960 buying them out later that year and using the O'day plate from there. My 63 does still have Oday and Marscot I think and my Rhodes does too (65).
