Outboard

Postby Glenn » Sun Feb 24, 2008 10:10 pm

I am loooking for a 3 to 4 HP outbard for my DS3. I do not have the boat yet so I cannot measure it. What length shaft is appropriate for mounting to the transom? I know a 15 inch short shaft is too short but some motors have a longer shaft but are not long shaft models.

If you come across a really good deal on a motor but the shaft is too short, Maybe you can look at mounting brackets that allow you to raise or lower the motor.
I have no idea if one would fit a DS but you could look into it before you find that best deal.
My boat came with a 1980 4 hp 2 cylinder johnson. It has a VERY long shaft. Unfortunately the motor is at the summer house so I can't measure it for you.

You need a long shaft

17" at the minimum. It is difficult to attach a retracting motor bracket because it puts the weight even further back. I think most long shaft motors are 17" but something seem t be sticking in the back of my mind that it may be as much as 20". Can anyone else pipe in here with their info?
