sun protection

Postby seandwyer » Tue Apr 12, 2011 5:08 pm

Hey Guys,

Is anyone aware of a product similar to wax that will protect the deck from UV rays, but not make everything slippery? Everyone says to protect the deck, but with just a boom tent over the summer, the fore-deck and some of the cuddy will be out in the open all summer.

Thanks!

Sorry, don't know any sun-screen lotion for boats.

But the effect of partial coverage is indeed noticeable. I can still see on my boat where the tarp I had for the first few seasons didn't cover the entire deck. (It's painted, not gelcoat, so the effect is perhaps stronger, and I used the same tarp year round).

A full boat cover provides 100 spf! A really good boat cover is a very inexpensive investment in terms of hours (that add up to days each year) saved in boat maintenance while providing full protection from the harmful effects of the sun as well as keeping dew, rain, dust, and bird crap off the deck and interior.

My bad in forgetting the cat piss! My problem is that I also put a Silver/Black Poly Tarp over my mast to protect the Boat Covers from the winter rain and the cats somehow find a way into the area between the Poly Tarp and covered DS.

You can try Aerospace Protectant from 303 Products which can be found at West Marine and most any outdoors stores. It can be used on outdoor fabrics, canoes, kayaks.
