trailer winch strap

Is there a reason why the trailer winch strap should roll from either the top or the bottom of the spool? Which is "correct"?

It's the same as toilet paper, clockwise north of the equator, anti-cyclonic to the south.

Most toilet paper holders don't have ratchets...

My winch is top-loading, to use that term here, and try as I might I couldn't use it the other way around, because then the ratchet would block the boat being winched in, unless disengaged, while launching would roll free no matter what....

Now, come to think of it, I could mount the whole setup backwards, by undoing some U-bolts. However, then the handle would be on the other side - that might work if I was left-handed, but seems awkward for right-handed operation, somehow.

But if yours is electric, or allows for configuring the ratchet direction, well then...

I would suggest to load the winch in a manner that gives you the best strap angle to the bow eye. Brad
