Gas siphon

Postby kokko » Wed Nov 07, 2012 8:51 am

I siphon my gas tanks dry each season, usually resulting with gas in my mouth. I bought a $4 siphon pump - two tubes and a squeeze bulb - and it was crap. It did not pump from tank to another container and the bulb leaked squirting gas everywhere.

Who can recommend a good siphon pump?

I had one of the tube and bulb siphons. It didn't leak but I did have to hold my thumb over the end of the outlet tube to "prime" the bulb. Once I got fuel into the bulb it worked fine. I bought it at Wal Mart. Harbor Freight tools has one that looks to be better made than the one I had.

I looked at the Harbor Freight Tools siphon online. All agreed that it dissolves when you use it with gas. I wonder if a cheap fuel line is a better bet. I could just cut off the fittings.

My motor is small enough to just turn upside down into a large funnel.

On mine, I usually just tap the two leads together after removing them from the battery. That takes care of any left-over electrons at the end of the season. :D :D

(sorry, couldn't resist.)
