Okay, now I'm curious about the deployment procedure. I'm assuming that you will be deploying this while at anchor?

Thanks KC! I have not set up the tent/cot inside it yet, but it fit fine with room to spare inside the old tarp version, which didn't have the poles for support that make this version much roomier (I'm 6' 2" and can stand upright inside). Eventually I'll get a pic of it set up inside the new one tho ...

Yes, it's for use at anchor/beached. It can be set up completely from aboard:

1. Flake/roll main on top of boom and secure. I use a couple of those bungee-ball thingies.

2. I always disconnect both halyards from the sails and clip them to the ring on the mast, then use bungee cords around them and the shrouds to keep them from making noise at night (part of being a "good neighbor" at anchor).

3. Clip foreward peak carabiner to gooseneck downhaul ring and foreward corner 'biners to rubrail eyestraps. Uncleat boom downhaul and disconnect vang and mainsheet (both have snap shackles).

4. Raise gooseneck until front of tent is tight, then hold it up with the quick-release track stop.

5. Clip aft 'biner to aft boom eyestrap and aft corner 'biners to rubrail eyestraps, then shorten topping lift until rear of tent is tight.

6. Clip side tiedowns to rubrail and install flex poles, and viola, you're done! ;-P

Thanks! We'll see if it's "utility" lives up to it's "good looks" ... ;-P

I bought a boom tent off eBay about 6 years ago and actually used it for the first time on the Tx200 this year while at our camp anchorage to provide shade from the sun. Worked good, except it sagged a bit. I think adding flexible tent poles and and re-doing the attachment points might make it work better.

The poles make all the difference! Even tho I have not yet had the chance to try it out in "real world conditions", I've had it up on the boat (on the trailer) for a week now, and watched it go through some pretty nasty storms, and I can tell that they will help it retain it's shape with not much "flapping". Windage at anchor might be another issue altogether ... ?

The other cool thing about a boom tent that is suspended below the boom is that, flex poles or not, it's really easy to just flip one side or the other up and over the boom if you're just looking for a sun blocker on one side of the boat ... ;-P

LOL! Yeah, I could see that might be a problem. Though, I do like the headroom that you've achieved. Maybe you are going to need the next size up in anchor.

Anchor*s*, as in plural, as in a third to add to the two sizeable Danforths I'm already using! ;-P

Well KC, I finally got the chance to try out the boom tent with the tent cot at Cayo Costa this past weekend, and finally got the pics you asked for ...

Worked great, although the conditions were about as perfect as they get. We *did* have a bit more wind than forecast, and windage *was* a factor, but I've known I need a better bow anchor anyways, and now I have a good excuse to get one ... ;-P

First "live test" of new-ish boom tent at the WCTSS event at Cayo Costa this past weekend. Finally - glorious weather!

View of tent cot set up inside boom tent. Lots of room!

Tent cot in boom tent, taken from the foredeck. Worked great! Probably didn't even need to set up the tent on the cot, as there were very few bugs, but wanted to try it out anyway ...

Thanks for the photos Tim! It does look like it worked out great. So, is that standing room for you, big boy?

No prob! Definitely standing room for this "big boy" without the tent cot in place. It's a bit cramped with it in place, but I don't set it up until I'm ready to crawl inside and crash out, so no biggie ... ;-P
