Lake Murray/ Columbia, SC

Postby kokko » Mon Feb 10, 2014 9:34 am

Does anyone have experience sailing on Lake Murray? I have a niece attending grad school there and a google search shows a lot of sailing clubs.

I am at a point where retirement may be a few short years ahead, and wonder if Columbia, SC should be added to the short list of snowbird destinations.

Tem below here in St. Paul - need I say more?

you can google LMSC and Columbia Sailing Club for two clubs at lake murray. I've never sailed there but they were well represented at our regattas at Beaufort ysc, 125 miles to the south. i guess the sailing is pretty good there. its a good size lake and the weather is pleasant most of the time. late summer doldrums are a drag.
"of course" the best sailing is here in Beaufort, near the coast. ha!

Lake Norman, NC is also a good consideration. 20 miles + north of Charlotte. We moved there from NYC 15 years ago and love it. We have a daughter and her family about an hour SW of you so know what you've been going thru this winter.

If you trailer sail there are a lot of ramps. Otherwise two yacht clubs and a sailing club.
