Do all DS have built in flotation that keeps the boat from sinking should it capsize or fill with water?

Yes. I am not sure about the oldest DSs with the wooden seats but I am sure even they have some sort flotation bags of foam installed.

See my reply in the 'Self-Rescuing' thread.

I removed the soggy wet styrofoam floation from inside the seats and the bow tank last winter. It weighed 50 pounds!!! I've heard of it weighing as much as 100. I put a 6 inch "inspection" port in each tank and have been stuffing empty plastic Coke and Gatorade bottles in them all season.

Jerry,

How does the water get in there? My DS I has an opening with a stopper in it on the bottom front of each seat. (By front I mean facing the mast) Each time I take a stopper out considerable water drains out, but I can't figure where it is coming from. The boat yard guy says it gets in through the stoppers, but if that's the case, then why have them at all?

Where do I get a "stopper" for the front of the seat air chamber? 1972 Daysailer in Mississippi.
