Just in case you didn't know . . . .

Here's some advice:
If you have a gas motor, and . . .
you are using it to dock in a crowded marina because the wind died, and . . .
you have taken down your sails and neatly furled them for storage, and . . .
you are already in the narrow passage between docks, and . . .
the wind has magically reappeared, but blowing sideways, and . . .
your paddle is safely locked inside the triple-latched watertight cabin hatch . . .
do not run out of gas.

Do. Not. Run. Out. Of. Gas.

Let's just say I'm grateful that it had been a nice evening for sailing, and some of the boats on the dock downwind were still out on the lake.

So, sounds like you set up the perfect "running out of gas" scenario.

No, the perfect scenario is to have it happen to someone else at a safe distance, where I can offer advice and/or ridicule at minimal risk to myself, my equipment, or my self-esteem.

Happens when the battery dies in a trolling motor too! Know exactly what you mean!
