Is this sailboat a DS?

I’m helping out a Christian camp in FL and I’m pulling this boat out of the weeds and cleaning it up to hopefully sail on their lake. Just curious if this is a DS. Also had a few questions about it.

Is the bracket that holds the mast missing something? I just have a bolt thru it for now but seems a lil loose.

The blue rope I the middle section, is that to pull the keel up?

Can I sail it w/o the jib sail?

I found a smaller blue sail that looks like it’ll fit up there but not sure how yet. And I’ve never sailed a boat with a jib sail.

Thanks!

Definitely not a Daysailer. Wrong cuddy, wrong tabernacle.

Look around inside the transom, under the cuddy, on the aftmost corner of the boat (outside, on the hull), etc for a builder's plate or information stamped into the hull. May help you figure out what kind of boat she is.

Without knowing your boat, I can't speak to your tabernaclet setup. Something looks off, and it shouldn't have the play that you're describing.

With patience and perseverance, you'll figure her out. Good luck with her!

I just ran a search based on the HIN and discovered it’s a “Watkins 17.” Built in 1978-ish. Only a couple hundred ever made. Out of business now.

Thanks again. Sail on .
