Crew weight

Postby jrpytlak » Tue Oct 07, 2008 11:40 am

I'm moving to Alameda CA in Dec. Looking into what boats my GF and I could daysail/race. I'm use to big boat stuff where crew weight is far less of an issue. But could we affectively race a DS with me at 290 and her at 140? I can suck down to 240. I have for Starboats. Just curious.... Thanks!!

It really depends on the winds. Your weight can be used to your advantage, especially if you have your GF on the tiller. Once your boat is trimmed you need to be careful not to move about unless absolutely needed. When you do need to move about go slow and easy and the boat will quickly and smoothly set back in the groove.

The good news is that your boat may weeble and wobble a bit in a stiff wind, but with your weight positioned effectively it is very unlikely that you will flip her. (the boat, not your GF  ) Brad
