A couple of months ago I joined Vancouver Lake Sailing Club just north of Portland Oregon. There are several DS members, but those boats don't seem to get much use. The largest fleet are Lightnings followed by lasers.
Last night was my first time racing my DS (I have done a little keel boat racing, but not much). I am proud to say that I got second place in the mixed fleet. Please don't ask how many boats raced in the mixed fleet last night...
Most things went fairly well with the exception of my spinnaker. I need to figure a better way to stow the pole so that it can be left rigged (guy, topping lift, downhaul) and just attached to the mast.
Do the racers out there boom stow their poles? Leave them on the foredeck, cuddy or cockpit?
I think with a little work, I will be able to beat that laser next week!
