KC, thanks for "checking" into all of this. Not very encouraging, indeed. Worries me a bit that our checks have been sent who knows where, but I figure after 90 days or so, maybe I can count on the uncashed bucks for some new gear!

I am certainly disheartened by the recent posts. An attempt to increase membership followed by zero effort on behalf of the organization to follow through processing the applications and checks has put me on hold waiting to see where all this is going. Three months plus to get signed up is not acceptable. Looks like there was no real emergency after all. At this point it is doubtful I will be joining. Brad

Hm. It's not been 90 days, only 66. Still, I'm disappointed with the situation. I'll give it to the end of this month, before deciding where else to spend the money.

To everyone who has very kindly joined the Day Sailer Association, I want to thank you. I have been following your posts and contacted our new Secretary Brooks Measures. Brooks took over as Secretary being elected this July at the NAC in Cape Cod. There was a transition period and finally all items that Pat Skeen had were shipped to Brooks. These items apparently included the checks that everyone has been waiting to be cashed, but Brooks thought the boxes contained old membership information. She is in the process of getting your membership information out to you. Thanks for your patience. You can contact her directly at dsa_secretary@charter.net. Thanks again for your support!! Bob Damon

Thanks, Bob, for tracking this down. Let's hope this now resolves itself speedily. Transitions are always tricky for small organizations that are volunteer based. Perhaps the other Bob could reflect the newly elected positions on this site (when you click on day sailer association/board of govenors it appears you still get the old information).

Brooks e-mail

Postby K.C. Walker » Sat Jan 09, 2010 12:29 am

Bob, thanks for letting us know. It might be nice to also correct Brooks e-mail address on the application form. It is listed as dsa-secretary instead of dsa_secretary.

To all who have sent DSA Membership Applications & check

Postby DSA_secretary » Tue Jan 12, 2010 4:29 pm

Hello to all of you who have sent DSA Membership applications and checks,

I would like to apologize for the delay in processing your membership applications. As Bob Damon indicated, there was a misunderstanding (on my part) when we transitioned the position of DSA Secretary. The former Secretary held this position and kept the DSA together for 21 years. I have big shoes to fill and a steep learning curve.

I picked up most of the materials from the previous secretay last fall and we updated the DSA application on the website and in the DS Quarterly shortly thereafter. I have been processing the new member applications that have been sent to my address in Atascadero, California.

In mid-December I received a box that I thought only contained current member file cards, and I did not open it immediately. Alas, I was wrong because several of you sent in your applications to the Oregon address and they were included in the box. I am very sorry for the misunderstanding.

I am expecting to receive the 2010 boat decals and membership cards from the printer the end of this week. I am planning on processing your new membership applications once I have these materials.

Again, I am very sorry and thank you for your patience. If you want to contact me with questions, please feel free. My email address is:

Thanks Brooks! We really do appreciate your work and contribution to the Association. It was just a little confusing here. I'm glad you're getting it straightened out.

Brooks and her husband Michael are two of the nicest and most energetic people in a Day Sailer. The Day Sailer Association is in very good hands!

Last 2009 Quarterly and renewal letters are in the mail

Postby DSA_secretary » Tue Jan 19, 2010 7:36 pm

Hi all,
Thanks for the kind words from all of you.

I have just returned from the post office where I have mailed the last 2009 DS Quarterly and the renewal notices - over 300 of each. I am now going to tackle the new memberships and the early 2010 renewals I have received. The printer notified me this morning that the membership cards should be here by the end of the week. As soon as I receive them I will be putting all the new membership packets and early renewals in the mail. I am guessing that will be the first of next week.

Thanks for your patience.

re: 2010 Membership

Postby Mike Gillum » Sun Jan 31, 2010 1:04 am

I received my 2010 Membership Renewal in the latest DS Quarterly in the mail January 21st.

I immediately filled it out and wrote a check that evening with a little extra to help out the DS Association.

Mailed the Membership Renewal and my check the next day.

Lo and behold my 2010 Membership Cards and Stickers were in today's mail with a nice note from Brooks! Eight days total and I live 300 miles away.

Don't wait! Mail in your 2010 Membership Renewal

New Member Applications and Renewals

Postby DSA_secretary » Mon Feb 01, 2010 12:10 am

Hello all,
I have been busy working this week on all the new member applications and renewals I have received to date. I am putting about 40 packets with membership cards and decals in the mail tomorrow morning. I will be completely caught up with everything I have received to date. I am also mailing all the checks I have received to the DSA Treasurer tomorrow via priority mail.

If you have sent your renewal or a new membership application prior to this past week, you should receive your materials in the mail by the end of the week.

Please let me know if you haven't received your reply in another week or so because I may never have received it. I seem to be receiving about 10 to 15 renewals a day. I really appreciate how prompt so many of you have been. And more importantly I appreciate your patience while I was getting this process started.
