My hose was only 3/8" ID so it was not heavy. I only secured it at a couple of places under the hull as the run was only about 4 feet althogther. I used a plastic wire clip that attaches to a small bolt, and fastened initially to the pump itself on the stbd side of the centerline behind the mast, then up to the back of an inspection port on the right hand side about a foot back and a foot to port of the mast. From here it run under the sole to the back of the bulkhead where there was another inspection port and a small plastic automotive wire fastener that secured it to the back flange of the inspection port before attaching to the thru-hull about two inches below the gunwale. The nice thing about these inspection ports was that I could get at all parts of the system for installation. Even if you used a larger diameter hose, you could use a similar system.
In many boats that I look at the hose simply sits in the bilge unsecured, so we are probably over-engineering all of this.
