Day Sailer Quarterly Articles

I recently came into possession of a very nearly complete set of The Day Sailer Quarterlies, the Day Sailer Association's newsletter. I'm slowly scanning articles and posting them on my website in Adobe Acrobat format. I've only got about seven articles so far, but I hope to put new ones up at a rate of no less than one per week.

At the request of reader Roger, I've uploaded the first of several articles on cruising in the Day Sailer. This article is provided at my website: http://www.bobhunkins.com

This article was published in April 1964. It was written by Robert Milligan, the owner of the very first Day Sailer which he called "The One" (I wonder what ever happened to her?) Mr. Milligan lays out in great detail his arrangement of "The One" for cruising. I'm amazed at all the equipment he was able to stow aboard his Day Sailer. Hope you enjoy it.

This article, from Spring 1965 relates the month-long adventure of four men who sailed a Day Sailer for 45 days. Imagine the tight quarters and long hours! They must have been good friends! Take a look.

Bob, if I could request. There used to be a great article about building a centerboard. There used to be a link to the article on the associations web site.
I talked to the current webmaster and he said that link was no longer active nor did he have the article. If you could dig up the article for me I would greatly appericate it as my 74 is currently land locked without a center board. Also, just a note, I would gladly pay for a cd rom collection of articles.

Since the Day Sailer is not allowed to have a gasket over the centerboard trunk opening, the next best thing is to narrow the centerboard truck opening to the minimum width possible.

This article, written in 1992 by Grant and Marta Day, details steps to accomplish this. I have not compared the rules that are referenced in this article with the current rules, but I think they are still applicable.

This article from 1990, details repair of a hull to deck joint that failed at a chain plate. The article has several excellent photographs, which unfortunately makes the size of this file very large. (1.9 Mb)

Stern Traveller System
This article, written by Jerald Skeen of fleet 89, Eugene, Oregon in 1991, gives us a couple of good diagrams, as well as a Harken parts list for a stern traveller similar to those installed on the McLaughlin built Day Sailers.
