Storing at a slip/mooring

Postby Shagbark » Sun Aug 05, 2018 10:37 am

I’ve read posts about sailors keeping their daysailers on a mooring or at a slip. My question is, how do you keep the rain water from filling it up? I understand that the plug on the transom is designed to keep it from swamping, but it seems like there would still be a considerable amount of water that would collect. I considering a slip next year instead of trailering but I want to show up to a dry boat. Is it possible?

I keep my Daysailer 1 at a dock here in Punta Gorda, Fl. I had a local canvas shop make me a boom tent and it keeps most of the water out of the boat. I checked it today and after 7 days of thunder storms I bailed out 3 buckets of water. If I had a rear flap installed, it would have been a lot less than 3 buckets. Very happy with the boom tent, plus it keeps the hot sun from ruining my bright work I believe D&R Marine sells them also. John

I have used this cover for about 8 years now and it works great. Getting to the point that I need to add a couple of small patches in some of the corners but that is to be expected.
