Need Mast (or 2)

Postby thistle3930 » Wed Feb 12, 2020 10:56 pm

My sailing club was hit by a tornado last month. Almost 40 boats were total losses, several more are in doubt. My buddy and I each have a DSII. His mast was broken and mine was badly bent. We are looking for good used (cheap) masts within a couple hundred miles of Memphis. They can be bare poles. Any help will be appreciated.

That's bad luck.

I copied your request to the "Want To Buy" section of the forum.

You probably already checked area used sailboat shops? Last time I needed a mast I went to a used sailboat dealer. He had a bunch of random masts out back on saw horses. I found one that was the same shape and diameter but bent at the very end which could be cut off and still long enough. Sold it to me cheap.

Was funny (a bit scary really) driving home with a long mast tied to the roof of a tiny 4-door sedan though :P .

Yep! I found one old Thistle mast cheap. It required a little modification, but with help I got it stepped this afternoon. It still needs some adjustments and external blocks mounted for the halyards. Otherwise it is good to go. My buddy still needs a mast.

Thanks!
