Build Plate

Do all DS models have a build plate some where on the hull ? Can't seem to locate one on my DS1.

Only boats built after Nov 1, 1972 required manufacturers to attach a HIN or hull identification number. Some manufacturers before did attach a built plate or HIN but there was not uniformity. After 1972 the HIN were required to be on the transom, and one other inconspicuous place.

Ours is circa 1963 (class # very low 1000s) and it has a metal (brass?) plate with the make, hull and class numbers attached to the center of the transom coaming (mahogany). Still have all your coaming?

My builders plate is right between, and slightly below the two openings for the foreward locker. It is a little metal (aluminum, tin?) plate with the billder information stamped in, and the hull and class numbers etched in, it looks like, by hand. My boat is a 1965, DS1 Sail # 1868.

As the others have said....

However, it may not be a "plate" affixed to the hull. Often it is a plate placed in the mold and when the boat is laid up it leaves an imprint in the gel coat.

You might try looking on the bows just under the rubrail. Sometimes there's a number there. I have O'Day boat #1795 that has a Gel coat impression of a number, but it is The O'Day serial number, not the class number.
