Trailer and a boom

Postby bkafer » Fri Jun 06, 2008 7:13 pm

UNder my front deck I have lots of goodies.
4 life jackets
a throwable cushion
small box of parts
anchor and rode
extra lines
fire extinguisher ( yes its the law have a motor need a fire exting..)
so I have 2 nice doors that keep all that stuff ( and more) nice and safe

BUT when I trailer the boat, the boom does NOT fit in the boat with the doors on.
Do you trailer with your doors off?
do you trailer with your doors on and have a way to secure the boom
and if so... HOW??

Last I thought of cutting a small hole in the bottom of the door so the boom can pass thru then have a flap in the inside to keep rain out.
any ideas on this???

Thanks in advance.

The DSIIs I have seen being trailered lashed the boom to the mast using bungy cords at each end and one in the middle. Brad

ditto to algonquin, I just lashed the back end of the boom to a quarter cleat with the inboard end resting in the opposite front corner of the cockpit. It never went anywhere. Lashing to the mast is another option, but I never found that a necessity even when trailering for a couple of hours.
