Drainage

The Spindrift has two interior drains and one transom drain. Because the transom drain tube is short, water gets in-between the hulls.

1 How do I drain it, tipping it way back and draining it through the transom drain? There is nothing underneath.

Any more good advice. I tried sending Bob a private post but he has not responded yet. Any other Spindrift gurus out there?

Rick, I don't know of any other way to drain the water out of the Spindrift than to tip it back. Mine also gets some water between the hulls. I would be curious to know where the interior drains are. I have one Anderson bailer, but that's all I think I've seen in the way of an interior drain.

Inside there is one starboard just aft of the mast and one Portside forward inches away from the forward flotation compartment. None outside except the transom drain.

I have a 1981 Spindrift DS1 (made by Rebel Industries), Hull #11469, and as far as I can tell I have only one drain period (transom). I have only had the boat since April of this year, but am fairly sure that I have no other drains. I will be checking it thoroughly again after work today though. I also know that most of my excess water is from water that gets into the "sealed" bench seats due to cracks in the fiberglass where the seats are attached to the hull. I need to install a way to drain those.

Sounds like you and I are in the same "boat". If only someone out there was willing to share we could get some answers.

Do you sail on the intracoastal waterway? My parents lived in Indialantic while I was in college. I did not sail then, but it seemed like that would be a great place, especially in the winter.

I got her last week. I'll answer your question Monday. The last time I had access to a sailboat was the Saturday before hurricane Andrew in Miami. Need I say more?

The Indian River was windy and I found a repairable small leak. The boat was fast and fun. The Indian River is a cool place to sail w/o question.

I'd be interested in knowing where the small leak was located. Also, I thought your strategy to repair the sagging centerboard, as described in another thread, was very inventive, especially to get the centerboard hole square again...may have to try that myself.

Anything that works! Actually the leak is over the receiver for the CB lever on the other (port) side of the trunk. It goes over the grommet and needed more epoxy. Works sort of like a screen door on a submarine

I am curious about the port side of the CB trunk receiver leak. My Spindrift does not have any hole or fitting on the port side of the trunk (exterior). In other words, the CB pin does not extend all the way through the trunk. And while it's been a while since I had the unit out of the boat to work on it, I can't remember if the pin actually extends beyond the CB itself, into any kind of receiver on the (inside) port side of the trunk.

So, from what you describe, it sounds like you had a leak because of a fitting or grommet on the port side of the trunk. My boat can't leak there, because it's solid fiberglass on the external port side.

I would be interested in knowing of other Spindrift DS1 arrangements. I don't know if your boat, or mine, is the norm for the CB pin arrangement.
