Repairing cuddy roof stringers

Glad these were only dirt. Explains the weird ragged shape and is one more reminder why diagnosis by photo is fraught with peril.

cracked cuddy roof beams

in my opinion the strength of the cuddy roof is marginal. cracked beams can be expected. standing on top of the cuddy and manhandling a 24' stick into the hole on the cuddy roof is risky. someone is needed in the cuddy to place the mast base in the step. to me this is not a seamanlike way to get things done. i think it is in the best interest of the class to make two piece masts with tabernacle the standard. aargh!

Last year I cut a hole in the cuddy roof for a through deck block, just behind the partner, and found that it was about 1/4+ inch thick. I'm kind of surprised that the feel of the cuddy roof and the foredeck are a little squishy underfoot.
