I bought a DaySailer a couple years ago that I'm just now getting around to restoring. When looking at pictures and descriptions of O'Day DaySailers I am very reasonably sure I have a Daysailer II, but according to everything I've read the hull number should be 4522 or greater. Mine is in the 3000's (which according to the charts this would make it a DaySailer I). Any ideas? I will forward pictures of the boat to anyone who would do me the favor of double checking my judgement of this being a DaySailer "II".

I would have originally but I didn't know if it was safe to post VIN's or HIN's online. I see you're the moderator of a forum with a lot of interaction so assume you wouldn't ask if it wasn't safe. It's a 1971 model so there's no stamped HIN on the back of the transom. On the inside of the transom there's a metal plate with O'Day corp's name and info and: Hull No. 31xx Class 50xx.

Titles before 1973 cannot be relied on. How do I know? Mine is 8 years off. It also claims '71, but my boat is demonstrably older. Just for an example.
Now, the number that you need is the "CLASS" number. And that is above 4500 so this could be a DSII. (The "HULL" number counts the number of hulls for a given builder - not necessarily tied to the model).
I see from the hull number index that your boat would have to be 500 boats after the first DSII with #4522 in '71. I don't know whether they really cranked out 500 of these boats the very first year, but in your case, the true age of the boat could well match what your title has.
About posting #'s. Many people have posted them here, but some won't. For those who race, any picture of their boat under way will show the sail number - for other boats, sail numbers are often incorrect (left on a used sail). There's a thread here in the forum somewhere, where people can list their boat with its sail (or class) number. All voluntary.
