I'm looking for a used outboard with 3-4 HP and answers here may save me driving around looking at engine designs that don't suit my needs.
Do outboard engines with the throttle that twists on the tiller-handle typically have a "lock" feature that allows one to fix a throttle setting, lock it in and then take one's hand off the twist-throttle while maintaining desired revs?
Our old engine has the throttle on the engine case that stays at the setting on a hands-free basis. This lets me lock the engine-swivel in a straight-ahead direction, fix a throttle setting and then steer the boat with the boat's tiller.
If twist-throttles on the engine's tiller handle require that my hand always be on the throttle, then I don't want that kind of engine.
Thanks
