Midboom to stern trveler

Hello all. I have just purchased a 64 DS1 and absolutly love her. However, I am already fed up with the mid boom traveller. It clutters things up too much for me, as well,the aging system does not operate smoothy. A sterm system interests me. With the triangle system pictures I have seen on this site it appears there is no way to pull the boom to windward. I'd hate to loose any performance but I love the simplicity. I guess my question is, do any of you notice any issues going to windward without being able to have more boom adjustment?

Heres a non traveller suggestion that I got from Newt Wattis, multi Mariner champ, and I'm currently using it on my Rhodes and like it quite well. It's just a straight Crosby as originally used on just about all early O'days but use ratchets on the stern (port and starboard) blocks. This lets you get real close to the centerline on the main for upwind and with a vang is pretty good for gust controls without a lot of complications. About the only place I don't like it is on deep runs because of the 2 lines running from the stern.

Thanks for the info, I didn't realize that the triangle actually helped prevent excessive downward pressure on the boom and sails. It makes much more sense now, thanks.
